  Cryptomeria japonica                      Japanese Red Cedar                                        

Evergreen, monoecious, conical shaped tree with mid-green flat, needle like leaves in groups of 5 spiralled around the shoots. Female cones containing 3 to 5 seeds are spherical with scales, male cones are ovoid and found clustered around shoot tips.

Distinctive fibrous bright red/brown bark, with small strips vertically hanging off it.
