Broad, spreading deciduous tree with opposite, dark green plamate leaves consisting of 5-7 ovate/elliptic shaped, pointed leaflets, turning red/orange in autumn.

Producing spikes of upright small tubular, pale yellow/white/pink flowers in spring/summer.

Smooth light grey bark piited with mall dark vertical fissures.
